This morning, the Senate Agriculture Committee Majority Staff held a meeting to discuss the status of the Farm Bill. Committee Staff stated that there was still a possibility that Senate Floor action on the Farm Bill could be completed by the Thanksgiving Recess, but that time is running out. They labeled the current situation as a “procedural standoff,” and urged those present to do what they can to help move the process forward.

Democratic Leadership Staff stated that the Farm Bill remains as pending business and will be brought up at 2:15 this afternoon. It will continue to be pending business this evening and tomorrow.  Senator Reid had considered filing for cloture on the Dorgan-Grassley amendment, but decided against it, as he thought the amendment would not receive a fair vote due to the procedural concerns of other Senators. Senator Reid has not decided if/when he will file for cloture on the overall Farm Bill.

Nothing of substance will occur until the leadership of the two parties reaches an agreement.

We will continue to monitor the situation, as well as all Floor debate, and will keep you apprised of any developments.  Please let us know if you have any questions.
