Our Story

NACIA began in 2016 when industry stakeholders first gathered at the Eating Insects Detroit Conference to advance the role of insects in food and feed. Originally founded as the North American Edible Insect Coalition (NAEIC), the organization brought together educators, researchers, and entrepreneurs to formalize the growing “BugAg” movement.

As the industry expanded beyond food into feed, soil health, and biomaterials, our mission evolved. The shift to the North American Coalition for Insect Agriculture (NACIA) reflects this broader scope—supporting innovation, policy development, and public understanding across the full spectrum of insect applications.

Insect agriculture is ready for the spotlight, and NACIA is here to provide a unified voice, clear the regulatory path, and build industry credibility.”
